Two killed as vehicle carrying election team plunges in Ramechhap

KATHMANDU, MARCH 2 One more person has died in the road accident at Deurali in Ramechhap Municipality-2, Ramechhap district, taking the death toll to two. A mini-truck carrying election materials and personnel for the upcoming March 5 House of Representatives elections met with an accident on Monday afternoon, initially resulting in one fatality and seven injuries. One person died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries during treatment. According to the District Police Office, Ramechhap, the vehicle (registration number Na 4 Kha 6768) veered off the road and plunged approximately 200 metres down a slope. Rajan Prasad Timilsina, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Ramechhap, said the vehicle was transporting election materials, security personnel, and election officers assigned to three polling stations. After delivering materials at the Deurali polling centre, it was en route to two other polling stations when the accident occurred, he added. The deceased have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector R.P. Yadav and Dor Prasad Ghimire, a teacher at Rudrachheshwor Secondary School, according to Keshav Singh Dhami, Medical Superintendent at Manthali Hospital. Ghimire breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Manthali Hospital. Both were members of the election team assigned to the polling centre at Sanghutar Ward Office 'Kha' in the district. Six others injured in the incident have been identified as Sabbar Bahadur Manandhar, 47, and Bhim Bahadur Manandhar of Khandadevi Rural Municipality-4; Sabina Khadka, 28, of Ramechhap Rural Municipality-2; and Kedar Kumar Roka, 47, of Manthali Municipality-3. Krishna Prasad Ghimire, a resident of Lalbandi Municipality in Sarlahi district and currently a teacher at Bhimeshwor Prasun Kandel Secondary School, was also injured. Durga Kakri, 25, whose permanent address is yet to be confirmed, likewise sustained injuries in the accident. The injured were airlifted to Kathmandu in a Nepali Army helicopter for further treatment, police said.
