Development spending reaches only 19% in eight months

KATHMANDU, MARCH 15 The federal government has spent only around 19 percent of its capital (development) budget in the first eight months of the current fiscal year, reflecting continued weak development expenditure. According to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), the government has spent 19.24 percent of the allocated capital budget by the end of Fagun (March 14). The government had announced a total budget of Rs 1.964 trillion for the current fiscal year. Of this, Rs 926.58 billion has been spent so far, accounting for 47.18 percent of the annual budget allocation. Under the current expenditure heading, the government has spent 54.37 percent of the allocated budget. Similarly, under the capital expenditure heading, only 19.24 percent of the allocated Rs 407.88 billion has been spent during the review period. Under the financial management heading, the government has spent 54.89 percent of the allocated Rs 375.24 billion, amounting to Rs 205.95 billion so far. Meanwhile, revenue collection has reached 49.89 percent of the annual target by the end of Fagun. The government had set a revenue collection target of Rs 1.533 trillion for the current fiscal year, of which Rs 765.10 billion has been collected so far, according to the FCGO. (With inputs from RSS)
