Fugitive former finance executive arrested over banking offence

KATHMANDU, MARCH 16 Police have arrested a fugitive convicted in a banking offence case and sentenced to six years in prison and over Rs 226 million in fines. The arrested individual has been identified as 69-year-old Yogendra Prasad Shrestha, the former executive chairman of Nepal Share Markets and Finance Limited. According to Nepal Police, Shrestha had been convicted for committing banking offences by engaging in irregular and illegal activities against the interests of depositors and the financial institution. The Supreme Court, in its verdict on Bhadra 5, 2081, had sentenced him in two separate cases to three years' imprisonment each, totaling six years in jail. The court also imposed fines amounting to Rs 226.74 million, including Rs 194.6 million in one case and Rs 32.13 million in another. A team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested Shrestha from Sitapaila, Nagarjun Municipality–5 in Kathmandu on Sunday. Police said he has been presented before the Kathmandu District Court for the implementation of the court's verdict.
