Library inaugurated at Shree Krishna Secondary School in Baitadi

BAITADI, MARCH 22 A newly established reading facility, Sharad Library, was inaugurated at Shree Krishna Secondary School in Patan, Baitadi District, in memory of the school's former head teacher, late Sharad Prasad Joshi. Supported by Nepalmed, a social organization based in Germany, the library serves as the first organized reading facility established at a school in the district. The library was formally inaugurated by Joshi's spouse, Dropadi Joshi, amid a ceremony chaired by the deputy Mayor of Patan Municipality Kamal Bohara and attended by teachers, students, guardians, local representatives, and community members. Speaking at the ceremony, Joshi expressed that the library would serve as a lasting tribute to her husband's lifelong dedication and commitment towards education and wellbeing of the region. Local representatives, celebrated community members, and school authorities highlighted Joshi's lasting legacy, noting that his leadership significantly contributed to the development of the school and to the broader education sector. Moreover, the speakers at the event praised the initiative of Nepalmed, emphasizing the importance of libraries in fostering a reading culture and strengthening educational opportunities in rural communities. Sharad Prasad Joshi is remembered not only for his contributions to the school but also for his significant role at the national level. He served as the founding coordinator of the Population Education Project at the Ministry of Education from 1984 to 2006. During his tenure, Joshi pioneered from policy level in initiating the inclusion of population and health education in school and university curricula. To promote population education across the schools throughout Nepal, he initiated the publication of a quarterly journal from the Ministry of Education - Population Education News that later expanded its reach as Population Education Activities, until 2006. Late Joshi served as the founding editor and as founding chief-editor, respectively, of these journals. The newly inaugurated library houses a range of academic and reference materials as per the wish of the students and school administration that are aimed at enhancing students' access to learning resources. The school management and Patan Municipality assured that continued efforts will be made to expand and update the collection in the future. The ceremony concluded by unveiling of the book Our Stories - a collection of short stories composed by the students of the school during the creative writing session organized by Nepalmed, earlier this year - by the head teacher of the school Birendra KC, deputy mayor Kamal Bohara, Chairman of ward no. 6 of Patan Municipality, Rajendra Bista, former head teacher Shiva Datta Joshi, former chairman of the school management committee Bishnu Datta Joshi, district judge of Sarlahi district Pushpa Raj Pandey, former Volleyball national player Janak Singh Bista, former teacher Hari Datta Joshi, and other distinguished guests.
