KATHMANDU, MARCH 24 The Department of Tourism (DoT) has invited suggestions from stakeholders to formulate revised hotel classification standards, aiming to align Nepal's hospitality sector with evolving global benchmarks and sustainability priorities. Issuing a public notice on March 23, the department said the existing Hotel, Resort, Tourist Inn, Tourist Lodge, Motel and Bed and Breakfast (B&B) Classification Standards, 2019 (amended in 2020) require timely revision to ensure improved quality, better regulation, and environmental sustainability in the sector. The DoT stated that the government is preparing to introduce new standards based on the concept of 'Green Hospitality,' taking into account the growing global emphasis on environmentally responsible tourism and sustainable development. To make the proposed framework more practical, objective, and internationally competitive, the department has called on experts, entrepreneurs, academics, media professionals, and other stakeholders to submit their feedback within 15 days of the notice publication. Key areas for suggestions include revisions needed in the existing standards, incorporation of indicators for green hospitality, and classification criteria based on physical infrastructure and service quality of hotels.
