KATHMANDU, MARCH 27 The newly appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal, has said that Nepal's foreign policy will remain unchanged despite a change in government or leadership. Talking to the media after assuming office on Thursday, Minister Khanal said that the Constitution clearly defines Nepal's foreign policy. 'Nepal's foreign policy will not change with a new government or a new minister. This is a matter of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interest. He said that data of more than 80,000 Nepali migrant workers has been collected, and the Ministry is actively working through diplomatic channels to ensure the safety of Nepalis in the affected countries. He added that additional measures would be initiated if the situation in West Asia deteriorates further. 'We are prepared to adopt alternative measures to ensure the safety of Nepali citizens in the region. Our top priority is their security in case they feel threatened,' he said. Khanal further stated that Nepal, as the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha and a peace-loving nation, has always urged conflicting parties to resolve disputes through peaceful means, and reiterated the same call to the international community. He also said that the current government has accorded top priority to good governance and economic prosperity, and the Ministry will align its activities to ensure effective public service delivery. Highlighting economic diplomacy, the minister said it would be prioritised as a key tool for national economic development. Minister Khanal, who has been elected to the House of Representatives from Kathmandu-6 for a second consecutive term, brings prior experience as the Minister for Education, Science and Technology. Before entering politics, the 47-year-old worked as an advocate for public education reform.
