NEPSE extends losses, falls 47 points; turnover declines

KATHMANDU, MARCH 30 The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) extended its losing streak on Monday, dropping by 47.71 points or 1.65 percent to close at 2,831.39 points. The benchmark index had already declined by 71 points on Sunday. The sensitive index, which tracks Class 'A' stocks, fell by 1.61 percent, while the float index measuring actively traded shares declined by 1.62 percent. All sectoral indices ended in negative territory. The trading sector recorded the highest loss at 2.56 percent, followed by the 'Others' sector at 2.13 percent and the finance sector at 2 percent. Most sectors posted losses exceeding 1 percent, except for the manufacturing and processing sector, which edged down by 0.21 percent, and the mutual fund sector, which declined by 0.98 percent. Market turnover also decreased compared to the previous session. A total of shares worth Rs 12.966 billion were traded, involving 31,606,717 units of 341 companies through 159,328 transactions. The market had recorded an intraday turnover of Rs 15 billion on Sunday. Total market capitalisation stood at Rs 4.813 trillion at the close of trading. On the individual front, 237 scrips declined, while 26 advanced and five remained unchanged. Despite the overall downturn, four companies - Reliance Spinning Mills Limited, Bhujung Hydropower Limited, Ridge Line Energy Limited and Hotel Forest Inn Limited - hit the upper circuit limit, gaining 10 percent each.
