Seven tourists die of altitude sickness in Mustang in seven months

KATHMANDU, APRIL 7 Seven tourists have died from high-altitude sickness in Mustang district over the past seven months. Among the total casualties, four were foreign nationals. According to the District Police Office, six male and one female tourist lost their lives due to altitude-related illness during this period. Information Officer at the District Police Office, Ishwor Mahat, stated that among the deceased foreign nationals, three were from India and one from Mexico. The victims ranged in age from 41 to 75. Among the Nepali nationals, 75-year-old Madhav Prasad Sharma Uprety, a resident of Mahalaxmi Municipality-4, Lalitpur, died of altitude sickness on October 10, 2025. He passed away at Gharpajhong-4 in Jomsom. Similarly, Jagat Bahadur Timilsina, 50, from Balephi Rural Municipality-8 in Sindhupalchowk, died on October 26, 2025, according to police. Sarita Budhathoki, 41, from Thori Rural Municipality-4 in Parsa, also lost her life while trekking at high altitude. She died four days ago. The foreign tourists lost their lives on different dates.
