KATHMANDU, APRIL 15 The government has formed a four-member commission to investigate the assets of political leaders and high-level government officials over the past 20 years, covering the period from 2062/63 BS to 2082/83 BS. A Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday decided to constitute the commission under the coordination of former Supreme Court judge Rajendra Kumar Bhandari. The panel has been mandated to collect detailed information on the assets of public officials-including political leaders and bureaucrats-and conduct investigations accordingly. The commission comprises former judges Chandiraj Dhakal and Purushottam Parajuli, former Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police Ganesh KC, and chartered accountant Prakash Lamsal. Earlier, on March 27, the government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah had decided to form the probe commission within two weeks. The initiative was also incorporated as point number 43 in the government's 100-point governance reform plan. The provision states that a high-level panel would be established under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to combat impunity and corruption by examining the propriety of assets held by high-ranking public officials. The investigation will be carried out in accordance with established legal criteria and evidence. The commission's recommendations will be forwarded to the concerned authorities for implementation.
