KATHMANDU, MAY 9 Customs inspection at the Rasuwa Customs Office has resumed after an impasse over mandatory MRP (maximum retail price) labelling on imported goods was resolved. Importers have agreed to affix MRP stickers at their warehouses before releasing goods into the market, allowing the clearance process to return to normal, said Chief Customs Officer Tulsi Prasad Bhattarai. The Customs Office has made MRP labelling compulsory to protect consumer interests. Initial difficulties in implementation had led to disruptions, prompting the government to direct agencies to facilitate the process. According to security officials, a total of 73 cargo containers, 32 on the first day and 41 on the second, have already undergone inspection and been dispatched. Information Officer Thakur Gautam said over 150 containers are currently stationed at the customs yard, adding that clearance has accelerated after importers declared their cargo details.
