No new restrictions on Indian tourists, says NTB

KATHMANDU, MAY 14 The Nepal Tourism Board on Thursday denied that the government has imposed any new restrictions on Indian tourists, calling circulating reports to that effect entirely false and baseless. Reports claiming that Indians crossing the Nepal–India border must now carry mandatory identity cards, that tourist stays have been capped at 30 days, or that vehicles can be confiscated for overstays are without basis, NTB said in a press release. The open-border arrangements and bilateral understandings between Nepal and India remain intact, the board said, and no change has been made to the longstanding people-to-people ties, cultural relations, and tourism cooperation between the two countries. The only recent change affecting cross-border travel, NTB clarified, is a new online system developed by the Department of Customs under the Ministry of Finance that allows foreign vehicles entering Nepal via land routes to complete temporary entry permits and revenue payments digitally - a measure aimed at reducing inconvenience at border points, not adding restrictions. NTB urged media organisations, digital platforms, tourism stakeholders, and the public to rely solely on official government sources for accurate information on tourism and travel policies, and to refrain from sharing unverified content.
