KATHMANDU, MAY 16 The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal has handed over Korean language textbooks to support school-level language learning in Nepal. The handover ceremony was held at the Korean Embassy in Kathmandu under the Korean Language Promotion Programme initiated by the King Sejong Institute Foundation. Under the programme, 600 basic Korean language textbooks were distributed to around 15 schools for Grade 9 to 12 students. The event was attended by Park Taeyoung, Ambassador of South Korea to Nepal and Gambhir Gurung, Principal of Future Light English High School, Rupandehi, along with embassy officials. Ambassador Park said the embassy has been actively promoting Korean language education in Nepal through various exchange programmes, noting that such initiatives would further strengthen bilateral relations. The embassy also conducts surveys to assess demand for Korean language education at the secondary level. It highlighted the Sejong Foundation as a key partner in promoting education, employment and entrepreneurship linkages between Nepal and Korea. The programme has also supported teacher training initiatives, including Korean language teacher training courses at Bishwo Bhasa Campus (TU), with financial assistance of USD 63,000 in 2023 and 2024. Officials said Korean language is expected to be introduced as an optional subject in more than 15 schools in SEE examinations by 2027.
