KATHMANDU, JUNE 11 Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Gita Chaudhary has said the government is working to ensure adequate chemical fertiliser supply ahead of the paddy planting season. Speaking in the National Assembly on Thursday, Chaudhary said the government plans to distribute around 600,000 metric tonnes of subsidised fertiliser by the end of the current fiscal year. According to the minister, 558,000 metric tonnes have already been supplied, while 168,800 metric tonnes remain in stock. The government is also expecting the arrival of 90,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser in the first month of the next fiscal year. She said Nepal is also procuring 80,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser from India under a government-to-government arrangement, including 30,000 metric tonnes of urea and 20,000 metric tonnes of DAP in the first phase. The minister added that authorities have been directed to prevent misuse of fertilisers and ensure transparency in distribution.
