KATHMANDU, JUNE 23 At least eight people were killed and 105 others injured in road accidents reported across Nepal within a 24-hour period, according to data released by Nepal Police on Sunday evening. Madhesh Province recorded the highest casualty toll, with five deaths and 28 injured, accounting for more than half of the national fatality count for the period. Koshi Province reported one death and 20 injured, while Karnali Province recorded one death and 15 injured. Sudurpaschim Province reported one death and two injured. Kathmandu recorded no fatalities but reported 23 injured, the second highest injury count among all provinces. Bagmati Province reported two injured and no deaths, while Lumbini Province recorded six injured and no fatalities. Gandaki Province reported no casualties during the period. The data covers vehicle accidents reported from all seven provinces and Kathmandu. Road accidents remain one of the leading causes of unnatural deaths in Nepal, with the monsoon season typically seeing a rise in incidents as wet roads, poor visibility and landslide-affected highways increase risks for motorists and passengers alike.
