BAJURA, JULY 5 Bajura District Hospital has significantly expanded specialist healthcare services, reducing the need for patients to travel to Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi or Kathmandu for treatment. Hospital officials said more than 150 patients from Bajura and neighbouring districts, including Humla and Mugu, now seek treatment at the hospital daily following improvements in infrastructure and specialist services. The hospital currently has 11 doctors, including two specialists, an orthopaedic surgeon and an MDGP physician, and performs more than four surgeries each day. Hospital Chief Dr Harish Bahadur Malla said a wide range of procedures, including appendectomies, hernia repairs, hydrocele surgery, orthopaedic operations, safe abortion services and other general surgeries, are now available at affordable costs. Although officially designated as a 15-bed hospital, the facility is currently operating 57 beds with more than 100 staff members to meet growing demand. The Sudurpashchim Provincial Government has announced plans to upgrade the hospital to a 50-bed facility in the next fiscal year. Hospital officials said the upgrade would pave the way for additional specialist doctors, modern equipment and increased budget allocations, further improving healthcare services in the remote district.
