KATHMANDU, JULY 15 The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast generally cloudy conditions nationwide on Wednesday, with moderate rainfall and thunderstorms expected in many areas and heavy rain likely at isolated locations in four provinces. Light to moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely in Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, and at a few places in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim. Moderate rain with thunderstorms is forecast in hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini, with scattered showers in Madhesh, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim. Heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini, as well as Tarai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini. For Wednesday night, DHM predicts cloudy weather nationwide, with light to moderate rain or snowfall in Himalayan areas and isolated showers in Karnali and Sudurpashchim. According to DHM, the country remains under the influence of monsoon winds. The monsoon trough lies slightly north of its normal position over western Nepal, close to the Tarai, while it remains near normal in the east. Among major cities, Pokhara has an 80 percent probability of rainfall and Kathmandu 70 percent. Biratnagar, Dharan, Dhankuta, Jiri, and Taplejung are also likely to receive widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
