KATHMANDU, JULY 18 The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has urged travellers to exercise extra caution while travelling to and from the Kathmandu Valley amid the possibility of heavy rainfall and rain-induced disasters. Issuing a travel alert today, the DAO advised passengers, drivers, transport operators and the general public to remain vigilant while travelling through entry and exit points of the Valley, particularly during periods of heavy rain. The DAO said the monsoon has already begun and that heavy rainfall could trigger floods, landslides and other disasters. It urged travellers to remain alert to weather warnings issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The administration said people should confirm road conditions with the police administration before travelling if there is any possibility of road obstruction due to floods or landslides. Travellers have also been advised to avoid stopping in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides and to proceed only after receiving confirmation that obstructed roads have reopened. The DAO issued the alert citing the serious damage caused by floods and landslides in previous years, including incidents that occurred at night. In emergencies, the public has been asked to contact Nepal Police at 100, Traffic Police at 103, or the Armed Police Force at 1114 and 1234.
