Heavy rain, strong winds forecast across Nepal as monsoon holds

The weather office forecasts thunderstorms across the country, with heavy rain possible in the hills and strong winds in parts of Koshi and Madhesh.

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 18 Heavy rain and strong winds are expected in parts of Nepal on Tuesday, with the Meteorological Forecasting Division warning of heavy rainfall in one or two hilly locations and strong winds in parts of Koshi and Madhesh provinces. The country will remain generally cloudy, with moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning likely in many hilly areas and some parts of the Terai. Moderate rain or snowfall with thunderstorms is also expected at some places in the Himalayan region. The division said strong winds are likely at some places in the Terai areas of Koshi and Madhesh provinces, while heavy rain could occur at one or two places in the hills. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue into Tuesday night. Heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces. In Kathmandu, moderate rain with thunderstorms is forecast, with a 60% chance of rain and temperatures ranging from 27 to 29°C during the day. Pokhara is expected to record 29–31°C with a 60% chance of rain. Among the major cities, Janakpur is forecast to be the warmest, with temperatures reaching 32–34°C, while Jomsom is expected to remain the coolest at 21–23°C during the day. The weather office said the country remains under the influence of the monsoon winds, with the monsoon low-pressure line currently around its normal position.
