KATHMANDU, AUGUST 19 Parts of Nepal's western Tarai could see temperatures climb to 36°C today even as monsoon rain and thunderstorms remain widespread, creating a sharp contrast in the country's weather. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, Nepalgunj and Bhairahawa are forecast to reach 34–36°C, while Dhangadi and Dipayal could see maximum temperatures of 32–34°C. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly regions, while parts of the Tarai in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces are also expected to receive rain. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly and Tarai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim, while strong winds are forecast at some places in the Tarai areas of Koshi and Madhesh provinces. Kathmandu is expected to see moderate rain with thundershowers, with a 60% chance of rainfall today. The capital's temperature is forecast to range between 29°C and 31°C during the day and 19°C and 21°C at night. Pokhara has a 70% chance of rain today, with temperatures between 30°C and 32°C. The temperature in Biratnagar is forecast at 32–34°C, while Janakpur could reach 33–35°C. The Meteorological Forecasting Division said the entire country remains under the influence of monsoon winds. The monsoon trough is currently around its average position. Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in several areas tonight, particularly across the Himalayan and hilly regions, while parts of the Tarai in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim may receive moderate rainfall.
