HETAUDA, AUGUST 19 A journey home from school turned tragic in Makawanpur after a sudden flood swept away four students crossing a swollen stream, killing two girls and leaving another missing. The incident occurred at Basudev River in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-19 on Tuesday as the students from Nirmal Secondary School in Bastipur were returning home after classes. They were crossing the stream on their way to Dandagaun when the water level suddenly rose and swept them away, according to Ward Chairman Narnath Subedi. One of the students, 13-year-old Sima Bholan, managed to get out of the river safely. Another student was rescued and taken to Hetauda Hospital for treatment. Police recovered the body of eight-year-old Roshani Syangtang, daughter of Dip Syangtang of Bastipur, about 500 metres downstream from where she was swept away. Her body was found lodged against the roots of a tree, according to DSP Madhav Kafle, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Makawanpur. The body of 12-year-old Binita Bholan, daughter of Rajkumar Bholan, was recovered on Wednesday morning during a search operation. Eleven-year-old Sumitra Bholan, daughter of Tikaram Bholan, remains missing. Police said a search for her is continuing and her whereabouts are still unknown. Police and local authorities have continued the search operation in the area.
