KATHMANDU: The St Xavier’s ground at Jawalakhel turned into a B-Boy hub on February 14 as the first ever Himalayan International B-Boying Jatra took place amidst hip-hop lovers and B-Boy fanatics. Youngsters and children present there enjoyed every move of Nepal B-Boy/ B-Girl and the Thai B-Boying dancers. The programme was held in support of the Seto Kamij Abhiyan proposed by Godavari Alumni Association (GAA). “Seto Kamij Abhiyan is an advocacy against the frequent disturbance in education sector in Nepal due to political turmoil,” said Manoj Manandhar, CEO of GAA. The youngsters’ favourite hip hop band Nepsydaz and rap band XXL made a special appearance providing musical entertainment to the crowd which happily grooved to every beat of their songs. As a special dedication to the singles, on Valentine’s Day, XXL sang their number titled Eklopan. While Nepsydaz sang You Don’t Wanna Know, remix version of Nachyo Maichyang, Maya O Maya and Timi Mero. The use of Nepali traditional costumes by the performers added an interesting touch to the whole performance, where they were actually doing the dance form that originated from the US. A group of Nepal B-Boy team sported Nepali Topi, daura and other ethnic costumes while demonstrating some captivating acrobats and B-Boy moves. The performers of the Nepali B-Boy/ B-Girl team were able to captivate the crowd’s attention with their amazing Freezes, astonishing Head spins, delightful Windmills and some breath-taking Freestyles. Those present clapped and yelled to motivate the Nepali B-Girl performers. Ashma Singh, the only girl able to demonstrate Freeze said, “Such events provide us platform to showcase our talent while young crowd will also become aware of such forms of dance and get inspired to indulge in it.” Meanwhile the Thai dancers shared some B-Boy steps with orphan children from Children Youth First. Chaiwat Sareebut aka ‘Alek’ from Thailand taught some B-Boy moves and freestyles to the children. And the organisers had saved the best for the last. When the Nepali B-Boy professionals and Thai professionals came on stage for a friendly battle of moves everyone’s eyes were glued to the stage. As the music went on these boys kept challenging each other with breathtaking moves like Nike Freezes, Windmills, Head spins, Bounces, Swipes and Krumping among others. The programme was organised jointly by Nepal B-Boy/B-Girl Institute and GAA.
