KATHMANDU: “If music be the food of love, then play on,” said a love-struck Orsino, the famous Shakespearean character in Twelfth Night. Music definitely is the food of love and life. Similarly a programme Music for life: A dream journey was an effort by Women’s Wing Nepal to help needy children, that took place at Rastriya Nachghar on February 27. Welcoming Fagu Purnima and celebrating womanhood, the event brought together many artistes under one roof. The evening began with the launching of an album and book of Neeharika Laxmi Shahi by Ratriya Kabi Madhav Ghimire. Popular singers like Kunti Moktan, Malika Karki, Deepak Limbu, Reza Uprety, Nima Rumba, Khem Gurung and many others rocked the stage with their performances. Moktan, who was in the mood of patriotism, started by spilling her patriotic feelings through her beautiful number Laali gurans ajambari and a new song Bhet bhaney nau dara katera. Karki captured the audience’s attention with her songs like Timi bina samjinda maya and Maanche ko bhirma. The first Nepali Tara Deepak Limbu rocked the stage with track numbers like Hajar tara aakash ma, Khaye kati baacha kasam, while Reza Uprety mesmerised the crowd with her famous song Angalo ma badhana. The live performance of the singers was spiced up by cultural dances such as Dhamali dance, Jhijiya dance, et cetera. To entertain the audience, there was in store an entertainment package in the form of Gautam Sapkota. Nicknamed Chari dada, Sapkota fully entertained and took the audience by surprise with his imitation of different birds. Sapkota holds a record of imitating the sounds of 151 birds. Nachghar was simply reverberating with the clamour and claps from the audience.
