Liquor, gambling banned in Dadeldhura VDCs

DADELDHURA: In spite of the fact that the number of entrepreneurs receiving licences for the sale of alcohols is on the rise, various Village Development Committees in the district have been declared as alcohol and gambling prohibited areas and the momentum has been growing. Jogbudha, Sirsa and Aalital VDCs have been announced as alcohol and gambling restricted areas. According to UCPN-Maoist leader Malsingh Mal, villages have been made free from alcohol and gambling with the initiative and active participation of local youths and women. Even police have joined hands in the campaign. Maoist leader Mal also informed that local youths and women came into action after people began to squander the hard-earned money brought from India and Gulf countries. "Women took such crusade after their husbands started wasting their money earned from whole day's labour in alcohol instead of feeding their children "he added. Public apology along with a sum of Rs 1000 would be fined for drinking alcohol and being involved in gambling in prohibited VDCs. According to a local Laxmi B K, fund collected from the fine will be invested for construction of physical infrastructure. Area Police Office Jogbudha said that restrictions on alcohol and gambling have been leading to decrease in criminal activities in villages. Bir Bahadur Dhami, a local said that incidents of theft, looting and familial quarrels have disappeared from the villages.
