TUTH docs cripple services over exam scam

KATHMANDU: Doctors and professors at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) halted all services except the emergency and indoor services in the hospital on Monday citing irregularities in the entrance examinations for Post-Graduate Studies in Medicine. The entrance examinations were conducted on Saturday and Sunday. Hundreds of patients who had gone to the hospital for treatment have been affected due to the agitation. The agitating doctors alleged that the entrance exams were conducted forcefully by Dean of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Dr Arun Sayami after accepting a bribe.

Nepal University Teachers´ Association, Maharajgunj chapter; Nepal Resident Doctors Association , Free Students´ Union at the Maharajgunj Campus, FSU at the Nursing Campus, Maharajgunj and employees at the TUTH have joined hands in staging protest.

The agitators have demanded the resignation of the Dean, cancellation of the entrance exam and probing the irregularities. They have threatened to fast to death with a hunger strike if their demands are not met at the earliest.
