KATHMANDU: Standing committee member of the ruling CPN-UML K P Sharma Oli today said that the new constitution might not be adopted within May 28, the deadline set by the Interim Constitution, as the “rightist” and “Left extremist” forces had re-enforced their political activism to derail the constitution-making process. Inaugurating the first national conference of the National People’s Cultural Federation at the UML headquarters in Balkhu, Oli said that twin goals of the nation - making the new constitution and taking the peace process to a logical end - would not be accomplished on time He was referring to both the Maoists and the royalist forces who did not want to see the new constitution come into force. “The new constitution will not come on time due to the Maoist stance,” Oli, who is a die-hard critique of the Maoist ideology, said, their recent behaviours were sufficient enough to prove people’s suspicion about the timely drafting of the constitution. “The Maoists’ latest intention of not letting the integration process of their combatants come to success proves that they are least bothered about the constitution,” Oli said, adding: “They want to pass the buck to other parties in case the constitution is not drafted on time.” Oli also advised the Maoist to transform itself as a civilian political force, abandoning its private army and arms as well as the ideology of violence. The conference is scheduled to continue for a week which will elect a new leadership.
