KATHMANDU: Describing the incumbent government as the main impediment to the peace process and new constitution, UCPN Maoist vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha said necessary tasks are being worked out to replace it with a national unity government. Addressing Janasanchar Abhiyan programme today, the senior Maoist leader claimed that success in the peace process and the constitution drafting task is elusive as long as this government exists. He also said the party’s priority would be on consensus for a new national government. He however conceded that the party is open to all other procedural options. With the time to form the State Restructuring Commission having run out, Shrestha said the CA should now consider hiring a team of experts for the state restructuring task, an undertaking that form one of the basic tenets of federal Nepal. Shrestha also said the army integration would only be possible after ensuring the drafting of the new constitution. On March 18, the three major parties had agreed on the time table for drafting constitution on time but NC and UML didn't take it seriously and they have been violating the agreement, he alleged.
