KATHMANDU: Sanjay Poudel won the title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today. The 18-handicap amateur, Poudel scored five-under 67 nett to register one-shot victory over Ajaya Bikram Shah. Shah, playing with 17 handicap allowance, carded four-under 68, while Dr Niranjan Sharma came third at three-under 69. Tendi Sherpa won the gross section trophy with the score of 11-over 83 on count back after he was tied with Shyam Krishna Simkhada. Tendi carded five-over 41 on the back-nine, whereas Shyam scored 10-over 46. Sam Doublard claimed the junior category title. A total of 41 players took part in the tournament, sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Captain of Gokarna Golf Club, Joseph Nathan gave away prizes to the winners of the event that was played under stroke play full handicap format. After the second edition of the tournament, Tendi Sherpa leads the gross section table with 160 points. Brian Fawcett and Vijay Einhaus are joint second with 100 each, followed by Jabor Kayamov (70), Ang Norbu Sherpa (60), and Shyam K Simkhada (60). In nett category, Kayamov is at the top with 116 points, four more than second-placed Sanjay Poudel. Brian Fawcett is third at 100, while Bijay Bahadur Shrestha, Pavitra Karki and Ajaya Bikram Shah are joint fourth with 60 points.
