KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club and Nepal Telecom today renewed the sponsorship deal of the football teams. Nepal Police IGP Upendra Kanta Aryal and NT Managing Director Buddhi Prasad Acharya put the pen on papers and exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding. They also unveiled the team jersey. NT had started sponsoring the NPC four years ago and both the parties agreed to continue with the deal, which is worth Rs 2.2 million per year – Rs 1.6 million for men’s team and Rs 600,000 for the women’s team. “Football was always our first priority and as a historic team who chose Nepal Police Club,” said Acharya. “We started the sponsorship with an aim of helping the players in producing standard game and we are happy that the club has achieved so much,” he added. “Congratulations for the past success and as a sponsor we would like to see Nepal Police Club reach to greater heights,” said Acharya. Acharya said Nepal Telecom was a proud partner of football and cricket. “We are happy to have the two most popular sports on board,” he added. “We are open for exciting proposals from other sports from within the Nepal Police. We can sit together and decide on other sports as well,” he added. When asked about the sponsorship amount and huge difference for two teams, Acharya said the most important part was the two parties working together. “We did not review the deal because of fewer activities. And as far as the difference is concerned it was decided on the number of participation by the teams,” said Acharya. IGP Aryal thanked Nepal Telecom for their continued support. “Football and Police have a long history and we have made significant contribution in Nepali football since the club’s establishment in 1950,” he said. “For the past few years we have felt a decline in the standard of our team. I assure you that we will do whatever we can from our side for the team,” said Aryal. “We will hunt players from our department and use the sponsorship amount for the players.” Aryal said the players get very few compared to their game. “I think these players have been performing only for their satisfaction through joy of giving. They get very little in return. We will focus on making our team strong in the days to come,” he added. “And this contract extension has also inspired us to do even better.” Deputy GM of Nepal Telecom Subas Chandra Shah said the sponsorship was part of company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. “The deal is beneficial for both the parties as we are also looking for promotion of our brand through football. The NPC players will sport our logo and name in their kits and we can use the name of the club and players in our commercial activities,” he added.
