Red Cross providing relief to tremor survivors of Kavre VDCs

KAVRE: Nepal Red Cross Society has started distributing food materials to quake victims of 37 Village Development Committees in Kavre in its second phase of relief distribution. Pulse, rice and cooking oil among other materials were distributed among quake victims of Dandagaun, Milche, Saldhara, Gokule, Saping, Bhumlutar, Chhaubas, Majhifeda, Sanobangthali among other VDCs of the district from Wednesday. Raghubar Chaupradhan, President of Nepal Red Cross Kavre, said that they had distributed 40 kg rice, six kg pulse, 2.5 liter cooking oil, and one box of nutritious food each to the children between 6 to 23 months old in the district. According to Chaupradhan, as many as 134,845 victims of 36,969 households, including 5,394 children from 37 VDCs, benefited from the food distribution programme. “Red Cross has planned to distribute 1,069 metric tonnes of rice, 162 metric tonnes of pulse, 67 metric tonnes of cooking oil and 18 metric tonnes of nutritious foods in the VDCs,” he informed. Earlier, it had distributed rice, pulse, cooking oil and salt among other food items to the quake victims at different Village Development Committees and Banepa Municipality of the district. Red Cross has made an agreement with the Ministry of Home Affairs to distribute Rs 15,000 each to the tremor victims at 10 VDCs in Kavre for the construction of temporary shelters.
