DAMAULI: Around 50 houses in Machhikhola village of Gorkha district are at the risk of inundation as a number of landslides pose a threat of blocking the Budhi Gandaki River since Friday. Police Inspector Rabindra Khanal at the Aarughat Area Police Post said locals of Machhikhola have shifted to Lapsibot area in search of a safe haven after the landslides posed a threat to their houses. Landslides have partially blocked the River that borders Kasigaun and Lapu VDCs. Khanal, however, said the land masses and stones fallen onto the riverbed were already swept away by now and the river flow is normal. Nonetheless, police have urged locals to stay alert and safe. Meanwhile, Acting Chief District Officer Dipendra Paudel said the situation is under control and locals need not panic. Gorkha District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee said as many as 83 VDCs in the district are at a high risk of landslides.
