Kathmandu:
The Rotary Club of Bagmati is organising Motor Car Rally on June 4 to create awareness on the adverse effects of smoking tobacco. The rally is scheduled to start at 6:30 in the morning from Army Club, Tundikhel and proceed all the way to Dhulikhel and conclude at about 5:30 in the evening. About a hundred participants including Rotarians and doctors have already registered their names for the participation paying Rs 5,000 per car for the driver and the navigator. Diwakar Rajkarnikar, president of Rotary Club of Bagmati, said, “We are organising the rally for a social cause. We are covering three districts — Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Kavre- and the participants will distribute stickers with anti tobacco messages and pamphlets to the onlookers during the rally”. According to a WHO report, teenage is the time when most fall prey to this habit. A rally of this kind would contribute in bringing awareness among people who have already started smoking and encourage them to quit it for good. The proceeds from the rally would go to Nepal Cancer Society.
