KATHMANDU: It was raining heavily and so the Friday evening on July 17 was a little dampening. The Bagaicha Restaurant & Bar at Jawalakhel was drenched in the downpour but themusic that was coming was spreading some good vibes. The fusion music had extra groove and punch in their composition that made one to forget the rain outside. And one naturally moved to the beats of djembe, tabala, dhime and bass and flowed along with music of the flute and piano. Upendra and Friends was at the centre. Upendra Lal Singh on keyboard, Roshan Kansakar on bass, Nikhil Tuladhar on djembe, Babu Raja Maharjan on Nepali percussion and Raman Maharjan on flute produced these tunes. They performed their old and new tunes including Beni Ko Bazaar, Chameli and their own compositions like Dha Dha Te Te and Dhime. Of the event pianist Singh shared, “We will soon be heading off to Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. We usually do a show before we leave for the festival and this show is that show.” Fuji Rock Festival 2015 will take place from July 24 to 26 and Upendra & Friends has been performing at the festival since 2007. As per him, they will be putting up fusion music which is based on the Nepali percussion and will comprise new tunes.
