KATHMANDU, JANUARY 16

At least 17 sheep were killed in a leopard attack in Marpha of Mustang district early Friday morning, according to the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), Jomsom.

The incident occurred at around 3:00 am at a livestock shed owned by Santosh Pariyar in Ward No. 2 of Gharapjhong Rural Municipality. NTNC–ACAP Jomsom said its staff reached the site after receiving information and carried out an on-site inspection and assessment of the damage.

"The affected livestock owner has been informed to apply for relief in accordance with the prevailing rules," NTNC–ACAP Jomsom stated.

The conservation office further noted that this was not the first such incident at the same shed. On Mangsir 26, 2082 BS, a similar wildlife attack had resulted in the loss of 19 livestock, including 16 sheep and three goats.

Incidents of livestock depredation by wild animals, particularly leopards, have been reported from several parts of Mustang, raising concerns among local herders about recurring losses and the need for effective mitigation measures.
