KATHMANDU, July 23 Himani Trust will construct earthquake-proof schools in Gorkha and Dolakha districts, Himani Shah, the chairperson of the trust, said on Thursday. Speaking at a press meet, former crown princess Shah said Himani Trust would construct earthquake resistant school buildings in Gorkha and Dolakha to ensure that children affected by the earthquakes in April and May can continue their education. Gorkha and Dolakha are among the 14 districts that were worst hit by the quakes. “Our team is currently conducting survey in the districts to identify the needs,” Shah said. “After the survey, we will be able to find out the number of school buildings required in the districts.” Besides constructing quake-proof school buildings, Himani Trust will also conduct health camps in the two districts to provide medical services, Shah informed. According to Himani Trust, a non-profit organisation, it has so far distributed relief materials in 22 places of the country to support the quake victims. Stating that Himani Trust was established to improve the basic living standard of women, youths, children and senior citizens by providing them access and opportunities to heath care, education, social development, environment and income generation services, Shah said the trust has prepared a five-year plan to achieve the goals. “We have limited resources. So we cannot reach all 75 districts, but we have always reached out to those who have sought help,” she added. At the press meet, the former crown princess was asked a few questions related to the new constitution, most of which she opted not to answer. However, she maintained that the new constitution should be drafted as per the wish of the people of Nepal. “If there are any Articles that are against the aspirations of the Nepali people, they should be amended and revised to address the concerns that have been raised,” said Shah.
