Kathmandu, August 2 Nine agitating national associations today said to go against the internationally recognised Nepal Olympic Committee’s decision of holding presidential election on August 6. Organising a press meet the nine associations declared to stop the election as NOC president Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan poised for that with his own representatives. The associations accused that NOC was trying to play divide and rule politics. Nepal Volleyball Association president Dan Bahadur Tamang, representing nine associations, said that NOC move was against their charter. “According to the charter NOC must inform about election 21 days earlier, while they have to register candidacy 10 days earlier and seven days prior to election they have to provide short history of the candidates.” Tamang added that they were not against the election but were against system they opted for the election. “NOC has chosen representatives of their own. IPP of Volleyball Association Ganga Bahadur Thapa was chosen as representative from our association which is not in our charter and how can it be in NOC charter,” he said. Tamang added that NOC was playing games with them and that was bad for sports. President of Nepal Gymnastic Association and vice-president of nationally recognised NOC Kishor Bahadur Singh said that conflict of NOC couldn’t be solved by shaking hands. “The problem must be solved with all people coming to an agreement. We had assigned president Rukma Shumsher Rana, Purushottam Shrestha, Upendra Keshari Neupane and Prasanna Man Shrestha to solve the issue but not only for president,” said Singh adding that the problem must be solved nationally as well as internationally and with the local law. “We must solve the issue with the coordination of the government.” Acting President of Nepal Badminton Association Pitamber Timsina said to expose the wrongdoing of the NOC. “We talked with the Olympic Council of Asia representative and they are against the work of Pradhan-led NOC,” Timsina said. “Pradhan-led NOC does not has right to select representative of their own. We had selected Ramjee Bahadur Shrestha as representative but NOC selected Ramesh Kumar Shrestha. We will protest against the election of NOC.” President of Nepal Karate Federation Dawa Gurung said he did not had any interest for the post in NOC. “NOC must run under their charter and they cannot go off the track in this case.” A total of 26 associations are the members of NOC and nine associations are against the election.
