Secy to push for urban policy adoption

A ministry secretary has said he would soon convince the government in adopting the recently
drafted National Urban Policy (NUP) after making some amendments. Secretary at Ministry for Physical Planning and Works, Janak Raj Joshi, said, “The policy draft needs some amending. After that I will work on it to get the government to recognise it.” He was speaking at a first interaction on the draft paper today. Joshi said the issues regarding legal and institutional structures, financial liabilities needed to be made clear in the amendment, adding that a panel of experts at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (DHUD) is available for any help needed. The DHUD director general Purna Kadariya said the NUP will act as a guideline for different sectors to plan new cities.
