Agitating cadres of UDMF torch parked truck in Birgunj

BIRGUNJ: Agitating cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) torched a parked truck (Na Pa Kha 4954) at Gandak Chowk of Birgunj on Wednesday. Similarly, a clash broke out between cadres of the UDMF and police personnel at Nagawa Chowk this morning.  No one was injured in the clash. Likewise, the protesters vandalised the statue of late Nepali Congress leader Atma Raj Ojha. At least four demonstrators were killed in Radhemai of Birgunj on Tuesday as police opened fire after demonstrators defied curfew imposed by the Parsa District Administration Office and staged rallies across Birgunj. Following violent clashes between the protesters and security personnel in different places of Birgunj yesterday afternoon, local administration declared Birgunj, the district headquarters of Parsa, a riot-hit zone for an indefinite period. A large number of security personnel have been fanned out  in various places of Birgunj to avert untoward incidents. The UDMF has enforced an indefinite strike in Parsa and neighbouring districts to protest the draft constitution and seven-province federal model proposed by the major parties since August 15.
