Nepal-China border talks to begin in Humla

HUMLA: Nepal and China are all set to hold border talks in Simikot of Humla on Sunday. Issues concering illegal cross-border activities, highland pasture problem and pilgrimage made by Hindus and Buddhists to the Kailash Mansovar will be discussed. A five-member Chinese delegation led by China's Purang County Secretary Gao Bogau will arrive in Simikot at 11 am on Sunday, Chief District Officer Krishna Ghimire told the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS). The dialogue which has not taken place for the last three years is being held in Nepal for the first time. Earlier dialogues had taken place in China. CDO Ghimire said that the local administration had already sought permission from the Home Ministry for holding the talks. The meeting will also discuss issues of attracting investors from the Purang County and transmission of electricity from China in Hilsa, an upland area lying in the northern part of Humla, according to CDO Ghimire. The Nepali delegation is being led by CDO Ghimire and includes Local Development Officer Rabi Bhattarai, Nepal Police DSP Trilok Bahadur Chand, Assistant CDO Dharma Raj Neupane and Him Raj Regmi from the National Investigation Department. The district authorities have made preparations to welcome the Chinese team by cleaning the streets and installing welcome gates at various locations. The Chinese delegation will be greeted with the tune of traditional musical instruments and a pageant. After the conclusion of the meeting, the Chinese delegation will be taken to a tour of the famous alpine Rara Lake.
