Kavre, September 21 The promulgation of the new constitution has brought happiness to the family of Mukesh Kayastha, injured in the Second People’s Movement, at Banepa Municipality, Kavre. Kayastha’s house lit up as soon as President Ram Baran Yadav declared the commencement of Nepal’s Constitution-2015 at the Constituent Assembly yesterday. His father Krishnaman said, “I have prayed for a people’s constitution more than my son’s recovery.” Kayastha was critically injured after being hit by a bullet in police firing at Tindobato in Banepa on April 9, 2006. Though his physical injuries were cured, he is yet to regain full consciousness. Kayastha’s parents eagerly waited for the new constitution after they learned that the situation of their son, who has remained in semi-conscious condition for the past one decade, would not change. A banner reading, “Welcome to the Federal, Republican Constitution of Nepal” has been put up at Kayastha’s house. Since early morning today, locals from Banepa visited Kayastha and congratulated his parents. “His dream has finally come true. Thus, I came to congratulate him and his parents,” said local Shyam Manandhar. “For long, leaders and CA members made a mockery of those injured in the people’s movement and martyrs’ families. The commencement of the new statute has brought smiles to the faces of the injured and given peace to those who died in the movement,” Krishnaman added. Mukesh is bed-ridden and can only move his head and left hand. “Though his legs and hands do not move, I try to make him laugh, but in vain,” Krishnaman shared. Four youths from Kavre had lost their lives in the 2006 Uprising. Kayastha’s parents worry thinking what will happen to him after their death. They have no option but to mourn as doctors have said Kayastha cannot be cured. The Kayastha family has been urging the government to declare him a living martyr and manage his treatment at home or abroad. The government has been providing a monthly stipend of Rs 13,000 for Kayastha’s livelihood and medical care.
