Presidential pardon to 610 prisoners

KATHAMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has pardoned 610 prisoners the remaining prison term on the occasion of the promulgation of the new constitution and the Dashain festival today. President Yadav pardoned the prisoners for their good conduct as recommended by a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday, The Office of the President stated in a communique today. Monday's meeting of the Council of Ministers amended the ' Work Procedure Related to Sentence Remittance, Pending, Conversion or Reducation, 2071' in order to remit the remainder of the prison term of those prisoners who have completed 40 per cent of their sentences and were not convicted of serious criminal offences. The decision was also made on remitting the sentences of prisoners that have reached 65 years of age and above. The earlier regulation stipulated remitting the remainder of the prison term of those who have already served 50 per cent of their sentences and prisoners reaching 70 years of age and above.
