KATHMANDU: If you are craving for Momo Funk, Namaste, Baza Gaza, Hip Break and some swaying, Jazzmandu is where you want to be. The Nepali jazz band Cadenza Collective will serve you all the needed grooves and funk at the Surya Nepal Jazzmandu 2015. And Navin Chettri on vocals and drums, Rajat Rai on guitar, Samir Chettri on bass and Inap Shrestha on saxophone will give you happy feet. “We are Nepali Afro Funk band and this is what we will be presenting at the festival. The music is going to be upbeat and groovy where there will be dancing,” shares bassist Samir about their performances. And they will be playing their original compositions which have been proven to be quite irresistible that you can’t help but sway to their beats. Cadenza Collective is a trailblazer in Nepali jazz music scene. The band started experimenting with jazz in 1998 and it has since evolved. Back to the Roots is their latest album released last year, their sixth. As per Samir, they will be playing songs from Back to the Roots which include Momo Funk, Namaste and Baza Gaza and songs like Darjeeling Tea. Jazzmandu is incomplete without Cadenza Collective and their music. Along with their sets, the band will also be collaborating with other participating Jazzmandu artistes. Fusion concert — Jazz at Patan — is one such musical affair where Cadenza Collective will be playing with Nepali eastern classical musicians and other international artistes. “The fusion concert will be new tunes with new musicians,” informs Samir about Jazz at Patan. The Surya Nepal Jazzmandu 2015 is scheduled from November 4 to 10. The Himalayan Times is the official print media partner.
