LONDON: Jose Mourinho's future as Chelsea manager was in doubt Saturday after his team lost to Liverpool 3-1 in the Premier League, putting a miserable season for the Portuguese coach into full crisis mode. READ ALSO

The defending champions have now lost six of their opening 11 league matches. Mourinho, who was subject to the first managerial vote of confidence in Roman Abramovich's 12-year ownership on Oct. 5, will be wary of what the future holds with just one win in eight games. Abramovich was absent from Stamford Bridge so did not hear the defiant and supportive chants from the home faithful as Chelsea's season slipped deeper into crisis. Ramires opened the scoring for Chelsea as early as the 4th minute but Liverpool hit back when Philippe Coutinho equalized in first-half stoppage time and then put the visitors ahead in the 74th. Christian Benteke got a third in the 83rd as Liverpool handed new manager Juergen Klopp his first Premier League win. After 11 matches, Chelsea has only 11 points, six fewer than Liverpool.
