KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress on Thursday said the party contested against its earlier coalition partner CPN-UML in prime ministerial and presidential elections as the two parties had serious differences over formation of the National Reconstruction Authority and views toward ongoing Madhes protests. Concluding its five-day meeting of the Central Working Committee, the largest party at the Parliament said the elections were natural in a democratic system and it accepted the results easily. The meeting concluded that the UML did not share its views on the NRA formation and the ongoing protests in Tarai-Madhes; hence, breaking the coalition was an obvious way-out. The party accused the incumbent government led by UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli of stalling the Bill related to the NRA earlier registered by the NC-leg government. It, therefore, urged the government to endorse the Bill from the House at the earliest and expedite reconstruction tasks in the aftermath of the devastating April 25 earthquake. Likewise, the party urged the government to make sure that a Constitution Amendment Bill registered at the House also would get endorsed. The party has called the government to take diplomatic initiatives to end obstructions in supplies across the Indo-Nepal border points. The government should address concerns of the agitating Madhes-centric parties through dialogues, it added.
