KATHMANDU: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Upendra Kanta Aryal pointed out the need to formulate new Police Act and Regulation, which would be consistent with the changing times. Addressing a programme organised on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Metropolitan Police here today, IGP Aryal said that Nepal Police was committed towards fulfilling the responsibilities and objectives stipulated by the prevailing laws. Aryal asserted, “There will be no compromise in maintaining law and order. In absence of law and order, the Constitution-stipulated rights could be breached, that is when the role of police is more prominent.” Also, speaking at the programme, Laxmi Prasad Dhakal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, argued that police advance themselves more to ensure security to people and places. He said, “The police organisation should create an environment where public’s confidence on them remains intact and they feel safe and secured in their presence.” Similarly, Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) and Chief of Metropolitan Police Office, Bigyan Raj Sharma, expressed the confidence that the Nepal Police would leave no stone unturned to discharge their duties and responsibilities entrusted by the state despite the limited resources.
