RAUTAHAT: Cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) have picketed the District Administration Office (DAO) in the Rautahat district headquarters, Gaur, on Sunday. The demonstration was staged after the Sadbhavana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato got injured in what the cadres called an 'attempt to assassinate him' at Jogbani border point, near Biratnagar, of Morang yesterday. Besides Mahato, Sadbhawana Party central member Dilip Dhadewa and Spokesperson Santosh Mehata were also injured after police used force in a bid to remove them from the Jogbani entry point, where they had organised a sit-in. The protesting UDMF cadres in Gaur have been burning tyres outside the DAO since 8 am this morning barring all DAO officials from their office. Chief District Officer Narahari Baral assured that the agitated UDMF cadres would be removed peacefully to continue their services to the public at the earliest. Mahato and other leaders had crossed over to the Nepali side from India and held a sit-in at the Dasgaja area near the Customs office. According to party Assistant General Secretary Devendra Yadav, Mahato sustained many injuries on different parts of his body after police resorted to baton-charge, adding that the injured leader is now undergoing treatment at Golden Hospital in Biratnagar.
