Four held for stealing

KATHMANDU: The Valley Crime Investigation Branch on Thursday arrested four people for stealing computers. Kumar Rai, 24, of Khanakpur-7 Rautahat, Raj Kumar Shrestha, 22, of Urlabari-4 Morang, Lakpa Tamang, 24, of Nele-7 Solukhumbu and Arun Nepali, 22, of Katari-1, Udayapur, were arrested. Police said they stole three computer sets from Nil Bahadur Karki’s shop at Gaushala 10 months ago. — HNS

Call to ban landmines

KATHMANDU: Human rights activists, speaking at a programme held here on Thursday, stressed the need to ban landmine. Innocent people are caught in landmine explosions, they said. Stressing that awareness should be raised on hazards posed by landmine, a human rights activist, Padma Ratna Tuladhar, said Nepal needs to ratify the Ottawa Convention against landmine. Another rights activist, Prof Kapil Shrestha, pointed out the need to ban the production, use and storage of landmine. — RSS
