KATHMANDU: Sedentary lifestyle is one of the major causes contributing to the rise in number of heart patients. Be it the congenital heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, hypertension or coronary artery disease, there has been a significant increase in cardiovascular disease in people including the youth. In such a context, people need to be made aware of the risks of heart disease. And to fight against heart disease — by raising public awareness about the diseases and ways to prevent them, Jayanti Memorial Trust in collaboration with Zonta Club of Kathmandu organised its annual fund raiser. The fourth edition of the event was organised at Hotel Annapurna, Durbar Marg on February 5. During the event, Miss Nepal 2015, Evana Manandhar launched Heart Pin — a heart-shaped coat pin. The funds for heart disease related awareness programmes will be collected through the sales of these pins. “We have launched these pins to make people aware about heart diseases. It is a symbol of commitment to protect one’s own heart and others’. Each wearer is an ambassador of our cause and should reach out to people in educating and informing them about the existence of heart disease,” shared Shreejana Rana, Vice Chairperson of Jayanti Memorial Trust, and First Vice President of Zonta Club Kathmandu. Prof Dr Bhagwan Koirala, who has been elected member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons of the United States, was also felicitated at the event. These pins are available at The Coffee Shop at Hotel Annapurna, outlets of Bhat Bhateni Supermarket in Tangal, Maharajgunj, Bouddha and Patan, Tamaslaya and Gokarna Organic Restaurant.
