KATHMANDU, MARCH 13

The disposal of waste from Kathmandu Valley at Bancharedanda has been halted due to obstruction by local residents.

Residents of the Bancharedanda area blocked waste disposal, citing the non-implementation of past agreements with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the Ministry of Urban Development.

Local resident Niranjan Sanjel told RSS that trucks carrying waste from Kathmandu were sent back, with officials stating that they would not allow waste disposal until the previous agreements were implemented.

He said, "We have repeatedly suffered due to the non-execution of agreements. The obstruction will continue until our demands are met."

Earlier, Minister for Urban Development Kulman Ghising had pledged to implement the past agreements, which had temporarily lifted the obstruction to waste disposal.

Currently, residents of Kakani Rural Municipality (wards 1, 2, and 3) in Nuwakot and Dhunbesi Municipality (wards 1, 3, and 4) in Dhading are stopping vehicles carrying garbage on the border road between the two districts from reaching their destinations.

Local representatives and party leaders from Kakani, Belkotgadhi, and Dhunbesi have also expressed support for the residents' actions.
