MELBOURNE: Two-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome claimed overall victory in the Herald-Sun Cycle Tour with a brilliant ride to win Sunday’s final stage. Froome won the 121.8-kilometre stage at Arthurs Seat in Victoria state to win the race from British compatriot and Sky teammate Peter Kennaugh who began the day with a 13 second lead on general classification, but finished seventh on the final stage and ended up 29 seconds behind. Froome led the field at the end of the first two climbs to clinch the King of the Mountains title. He then covered an attack by New Zealander Joe Cooper and when the pair led by 20 seconds at the foot of the last climb, Froome left Cooper behind to win the stage.
