KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress on Monday elected Madan Bahadur Amatya as the party president of Lalitpur chapter. Amatya, who belongs to senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba-led camp marks his second term as party president of the chapter with this win. He secured 371 votes while his contender Jitendra Shrestha garnered 325 votes. Bhimsen Ghimire and Karma Byanjankar have been elected as secretary and treasurer of the chapter in the chapter’s convention that concluded on Monday. The Kathmandu chapter of the party is scheduled to hold its convention on Wednesday. Bhimsen Das Pradhan and Sabuj Baniya are likely to become close contenders for the post of president, as per party sources.
